Information sessions

The Shield of Athena offers "made to measure" information sessions to ethnic communities in their language of origin and in a culturally sensitive manner on topics such as:

  • cycle of violence
  • repercussions of abuse
  • types of abuse
  • police procedure (To view the demonstration DVD produced by the Shield of Athena on police procedure and existing resources, click here.)
  • relevant Canadian and Québec laws
  • resources that exist for victims
  • children witnesses
  • violence among young people

The information sessions are given by the Shield’s intervention workers at locations such as community centres and the events are widely publicized. Pamphlets and other reading material are made available to attendees in their language of origin and the Shield also arranges that a police officer from that community is present to explain and answer any questions regarding the police procedure in cases of family violence.

The sessions are presently offered in the following languages:

  • Arabic
  • Armenian
  • Creole
  • English
  • Farsi
  • French
  • Greek
  • Italian
  • Romanian
  • Spanish

Further details on how the information sessions are developed can be found in our Handbook on "Made to Measure" Community Outreach Program.
